We are coming to the end of the Naturopathic Philosophy series… I truly hope you are enjoying it 🙂
The reason I spend so much time on the philosophies behind naturopathic medicine is that I truly believe your healing comes from shifting beliefs and understanding about how you heal.
The very first video in my RED Hot Sexy Meno(pause) class spends well over an hour diving deep into this topic for you. That’s how important I think it is. Way before knowing what to eat, drink or take, we must focus on the mind and how we think. Remember our thoughts create feelings, our feelings create actions, and our actions create our lives!
When it comes to being a patient it can be super confusing navigating the traditional medical world…
And that is why the tenet of Docere is so near and dear to my heart. It is the principle of naturopathic medicine, whose Latin origins translate to Doctor as Teacher.
As a physician, I have spent years training to be a doctor, and even after 20 years on the job, I am still constantly studying, learning, and experiencing to keep up with the ever-evolving field and be the best teacher I can be for you.
Naturopathic doctors, like myself, elevate patient health literacy, which means that NDs are part of the team helping you have a better understanding of what it takes to be and stay well. Through education and a trust-based relationship, you can better understand the steps to achieve and maintain health.
This is more important than ever with the state of affairs out there in our current world. So many physicians and unfortunately, even some in my profession, are confused about how to prevent the virus and help patients continue to grow healthy habits. It breaks my heart when I see the advice given and even more when I see all the good advice there is to offer, not given. It is so important to turn off the pharmaceutically funded and backed mainstream news. It is so important to believe in and support your immune system. It is so important to take the correct supplement protocol, eat the right organic diet, release fear, and have faith in your body’s natural healing abilities. If you are currently not living with optimal health, then this is the time to find yourself a naturopathic doctor. It is time to exercise, eat well, and supplement your way back to good health! It is time to move away from obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and more. If you are stuck in a place of fear, let it guide you towards making new choices for your life that lead you to health and wellness!
I take my oath, my job, and my position seriously! I am committed to standing up for you and your rights. I also practice what I preach. As an actual human being, and not just a superhero doctor, I have been sick myself – I understand how viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites can wreak havoc on an imbalanced body. I have spent three months in bed, unable to care for my children at the time. I understand the peaks and valleys and the actions it requires to live aligned with nature and health.
Feel free to ask me anything. Docere means if you have a question – I either have or will find you an answer!
Let’s take a look now at how Naturopathic Medicine Rocks!!!!
According to the AANMC, the average time spent with your naturopathic doctor is almost 1 hour, compared to an average 20 min appointment with a conventionally trained physician. This isn’t your normal in-and-out appointment. Naturopathic medicine is about getting to the root of your condition and finding solutions that patients can fully participate in and take an active role in their health.
Studies have shown that non-compliance to doctor recommendations is an epidemic (even within the current pandemic) and can lead to ineffective treatments and further health concerns. This can stem from patients not having a clear understanding of the plan or protocol when confronted by “doctor-speak”.
As a physician, this means asking lots of questions, active listening, and encouraging patients along the way. The same qualities and traits that make for a great educator, make for a great physician.
Research has shown that better communication between doctors and patients ACTUALLY can drive down health care costs and provide better patient outcomes along the way!
Beyond that, a good physician can undo the damaging effects of health misinformation present on social media, marketing campaigns, and even Google searches. I have, on several occasions, been shocked to see patients on outrageous diets, supplements, and even prescriptions! All things they thought were healthy, but in fact, are taking away from the quality of their lives. We review the illness process and discuss how it relates to them. Although not everyone is receptive, those that do have seen tremendous success in curbing years of misinformation and can chart a new path forward.
The most important part is participation! Be actively involved in your healthcare journey. To do this make sure to write down five questions BEFORE your appointment. If something does not make sense, ask your practitioner to elaborate or try rephrasing in a new way.
Together we can make real progress!
Have a beautiful and meaningful weekend!!!!
